CHLLNGR

“Dusty” (ft. Jessica Brown)

Here is the first track off of Danish producer CHLLNGR’s new record Haven on Green Owl Records.  Minimal, yet effective, it creeps forward never giving up too much.  I think it’s awesome.

TV Girl

“Benny and the Jetts”

San Diego strikes again!  I have been loving on TV Girl’s new Benny and The Jets EP.

While slicing up breakbeats over some classic soul and R&B isn’t new, Benny comes off pretty fresh, fun, and super listenable.  You can snag the EP for free just in time for the weekend.

Slow.  Dark.

Creeper of a tune.

Young Heel

“Falls”

For some reason, I kinda tried not to like this but it got under my skin and wouldn’t go away.

So you can relax to this super comfy electro yacht-rock jam from Brooklyn’s Young Heel while I continue doing a terrible job at being over anything even vaguely chillwave.  Get their debut EP Falls over at bandcamp.

Rebecca Peake

“Do You Still Love Me”

Rebecca Peake is writing a song a day for a year, from April Fool’s ‘11 to April Fools ‘12 and while the idea is certainly not new, it doesn’t really diminish the effort.

I have only listened to small slice of her work but was quite impressed by the level of detail and sophistication that could be put forth with a days effort.  Some of the tracks I really dug were dark and dense but I thought I would post this little ode to The Shirelles “Will you still Love Me Tomorrow”.  Get it.

Diluted Giants

“Courtship”

Dig this breezy number from North Carolina’s Diluted Giants.  Their No Good Asuras EP strikes me as a pleasant blend of White Denim and Ariel Pink…with moments of Chicago meets early Pink Floyd.

You should really just press play and dig it for yourself.  Get it.

“Hold Me Close”

This is damn sexy…the kind of mood setter that puts the bed in bedroom.

Check out the beautifully restrained downtempo LoveSongs EP over and bandcamp.

Dead Times

“Freefall”

Nice and slow…dark and brooding.  Perfect Monday tune.

lifecrushed:

A trend seems to be emerging out of our little micro-genre; a trend that we’re all too eager to get behind. This paradigm renders itself through the blend of RnB aesthetics and bass music production. Dead Times, US native’s and all around solid guys, are the perfect example of this recent movement. Although they do utilize tidy vocals, that doesn’t necessarily mean they rely on them to carry their production. Rather, musicality is brought to the forefront along with the ghostly verbal melodies. In the instance of their new gem “Freefall” this certain ethic is exemplified to the T. Raw bass rhythms mixed with breathy harmonics layer themselves across the soundscape like a warm blanket, coating the listeners’ ear with the temperate touch of oozy reverb.
