Garden Parties

“Under The Sun”

Yesterday, I woke up to this track in my inbox…I was stoked.  I later came to find out this was the fledgling work of Boston’s Luke Brandfon aka Garden Parties.  I love the summer glaze to the vocals, the pimp single note rhythm guitar keeping the groove down, the trashy slurry to the hi-hats, the vocal pads.  Sonically, it has obvious similarity to its forebearers, but if chillwave music never dies, so doesn’t the feeling…especially in the spring.

You can pick up Under The Sun at bandcamp. Looking forward to what comes next!

Dom

“Family of Love”

I like this sonic evolution.  Dom still has the quirky sounds with some intermittent noise and artifact type stuff, but it’s all presented in a much more hi-fi way, plus the song is pretty cool.  Well done Mr. Vernhes.

yerdarlingdaily:

Dom’s new 5-song EP dropped today, a daydreamer’s assortment of napping-in-the-park pop—not too radical a departure from the last time we checked in on him.

He plays with Deer Tick this Thursday at NYC’s Pier 54, at the last concert of the River Rocks series. And..for daydreamer wallets..it’s FREE!

“Give It Time”

MCF is the one man band project of Hungarian based singer/songwriter Árpi Szarvas.  Taking his cues from artists like Pink Floyd, Eno, Kraftwerk, and Giorgio Moroder, he blends a surprisingly modern take on late 60’s psych and 70’s electro.

Check out his 3 song Move To Iceland EP on bandcamp.

“You Guys Are Gonna Wake Up My Mom”

To say this is a beautifully lush dream of a song doesnt quite do it justice.

Get it.

Black Books

“The Big Idea”

The Austin, TX five-piece dropped their very listenable 4 track EP An Introduction To… early this year and I may not have had the pleasure of hearing it had they not hit me up on twitter this week.  I am glad they did.  The songs remind me of a cross between Band of Horses and Grandaddy.  Get it.

Blouse

“Into Black”

If I told you this was an overlooked gem from 1983 that I ripped from a cassette…would you believe me?

Well, it’s not.

Possessing all the charm and aesthetic of the aforementioned era, this is the first single off Portland trio Blouse’s gorgeous self-titled debut LP.

Released on Captured Tracks earlier this month, don’t wait any longer to check them out.  (via)

Grandparents

“Arrows”

Last week, Portland, OR’s Grandparents released their Fumes EP.  It’s a gorgeous psychedelic sprawl of dreamy americana shoegaze.  It grabs you right off the bat with the opener “Arrows” and keeps you glued to the last moment of “Golden Isles”.

Yeah…I’m a fan.  Defintiley the best EP I have heard in this young year.  Also, if their bandcamp page is to be believed and they really recorded this whole record on a Tascam Portastudio 488  MkII, then I am truly blown away. Get some.

Inspired by a recent purchase of a Korg PE1000, this B-side alternative version of the latest single from Spanish Prisoner’s 2011 Gold Fools LP will be avilbable on their forthcoming Prior Art Mixtape.  Check it out because it gives the original a run for it’s money.  Thanks to Leo from SP for sending this over.  Get it.

“Myth”

Beach dropped a single today for the forthcoming album.  ”Myth” is a slicker more mature sound that is still, very much, Beach House and quite good.
