“True Faith” (New Order Cover)
Love this.
Here is the OG version.
Check out danceyrselfclean, great blog
Lotte Kestner, True Faith (New Order cover found on her fantastic covers album “Stolen”)
Really Lotte Kestner has so won me over and I’m pretty certain she can sing her order at a Chinese restaurant and I’d want to play it on repeat. I definitely would love to hear her duet with Matt Berniger, her version of “Fake Empire” is pretty epic and well she can do some New Order like the best of them too. ”True Faith” sounds damn great with Lotte at the covering helm. Seriously check this one out!
Post #2 for Photo Synth Project. This track is too good not to reblog. If you have not followed PhotoSynth yet…your just prolonging the inevitable. Follow them.
Chairlift
“Amanaemonesia”
Easily one of the best tracks from the past week has been the limited edition 7” single from Chairlift being released by Terrible Records on August 16th.
“Amanaemonesia” is fun. Despite dipping into to some of the best of the 80’s sound palette as well moments from fellow NYC pop-psych explorers MGMT and Yeasayer’s playbook, the song still sounds fresh and unique. Oh yeah, it’s also catchy as hell.

St. Vincent
“Surgeon”
I’m a big fan of Annie Clark, aka St. Vincent. I actually am a fan of music that works the pop idiom and stretches out interestingly while sounding fresh without being pretentious or nonsensically clever. So yeah, I am a big fan of St. Vincent.
This is the first single of her new record Strange Mercy, releasing September 13th on 4AD
Pajama People
“Shoes”
Last Thursday whilst hanging with one of their Allston compatriots, I got a message from Pajama People that they had dropped a new EP. Being a fan of the first EP, I was certainly excited to hear the new stuff.
The 7 track After The Gold Rugs, is much sleepier than the previous I like Your Rugs EP. And while the there are a few less catchy tunes, it’s a more cerebral and cohesive experience than ILYR. Check out the AM radio gold of “Shoes” to slide into Pajama People’s mood.
Widowspeak
“Gun Shy”
There is a whole lot of Hope Sandoval/Mazzy Star-esq music floating around the web these days. When I first wrote about Widowspeak at the end of last year, one could make the case that was all that Widowspeak really was, an enjoyable take on that sound.
While the comparison may still be valid, Widowspeak have matured and their music is much less akin to the drugged out self-loathing vibe of the 90’s or straight 60’s psychedelia. Their self-titled LP feels more assured and much more awake.
Widowspeak will release their first LP on Captured Tracks on August 9th.

Alex Winston
“Fire Ant”
Question: Is this new track from Alex Winston awesome?
ME: Umm…yes. I believe it would be filed under “dope”.
Q: Is this off the new Velvet Elvis EP being released September 19th on Island Records?
ME: Sounds like you already knew it was, but yes.
Q: Do you think it’s crazy the Detroit native is only 23 and is amazing but kinda under appreciated?
ME: Yes. Yes I do.

Lana Del Ray
“Blue Jeans”
Track/Video #2 from the blog-ubiquitous Lana Del Ray. It’s pretty smooth.
Dum Dum Girls
“Bedroom Eyes”
I was skeptical of their too-much-like-Mazzy-Star sound, but the hooks just keep coming. I am being converted.
Amanda Mair
“Doubt”
This track creeped in and set up shop in my brain.
In the future everyone will be sixteen years old.
Field Mouse
“You Guys Are Gonna Wake Up My Mom”
To say this is a beautifully lush dream of a song doesnt quite do it justice.
Daughter
“Youth”
North London singer/songwriter Elena Tonra, a.k.a. Daughter, released The Wild Youth EP yesterday and it’s one of the strongest self-releases I have heard this year.
Calling to mind a stripped down Bat For Lashes with a forlorn Florence Welch-esq vocal, the four mid to slow tempo tracks on The Wild Youth are brooding and beautiful, yet never boring. Subtle, yet confident in her delivery while displaying a knack for smart and incredibly effective arrangements, color me impressed.
