Flesh Forest and The Elephant Only Zoo

“Sun Dog”

There is something fun and unpretentious about Flesh Forest and The Elephant Only Zoo’s Scream Dream EP. The waves of experimental pop that flow through this 5 tracker are supremely enjoyable.  It’s definitely not for everyone, but maybe it should be.

“Hoop Of Love”

My latest post for PhotoSynth.  Man this track is good.

photosynthblog:

Some songs just get at you right away.  “Hoop of Love” is one of those tracks.  It’s pop music at it’s best.

Check out their new vid for the track as well and be sure to pick up the San Francisco duo’s full length on 9/27 out on Lefse Records.

Cookies

“Wilderness Tips”

Scored this gem over at Pasta Primavera:

I had no idea that a piece (Ben Sterling) of the defunct Mobius Band had started a new musical project in Cookies (pairing with Melissa Metrick and Ian Ainley).  They have had a handful of free releases and 10″ and they all burn electronic pop goodness.  Check these:

Urban Cone

“Urban Photograph”

Just a rad, feel good track.

thevenomblog:

Some great electro-pop from the Stockholm based band Urban Cone who definitely deserve more recognition. You can watch the music video to “Urban Photograph” here.

Eight Bit Tiger

“Numbers”

Why spend all your money at Wal-Mart on Black Friday when you can have this rad 3 minute 35 second party for no more than your email address.  Dance more… for less.

Grab it over at the Chicago duo’s bandcamp.

McWolf

“Feel It Out”

I would have so rocked this track when I was ten while I played with G.I. Joe’s on my bedroom floor.  I would have been stoked too, it would have been my jam.

There really is so much delightful as fuckness when it comes to McWolf which is the side project of Welly Netto (of ABADABAD, Rodeo Church).  The 4 track self titled EP up at Bandcamp is just chock full of goodies.  I’m very much in head over heels love with the eargasm Feel It Out.  McWolf (can’t express how much I think this name is brilliant) is for fans of Abadabad, Surfer Blood, Bombay Bicycle Club and The Drums.  If you are smitten too you can download the entire album for a name your price value over at Bandcamp!

Because when it’s getting tough I’m gonna feel it out…

OPOSSUM

“Blue Meanies”

Here is a new cut from Kody Nielson and co.’s forthcoming Electric Hawaii out April 21st. Get it.

Been crushing on this group for quite some time, I think the LP is gonna be psych-pop gold.  Check out the rad video for the previously released “Getaway”.

Van She

“Idea of Happiness”

I used to mix this band from London back in ‘07 and they used to gush about the Van She non-stop.  I mean they really were into them bordering on jealousy.  Every now again I would think… what ever happened to that band with the cool name?  Well today I got my answer…they’re still kicking ass.

glofi:

Van She is so glossy pop.  I love this chorus.

Capital Cities

“Kangaroo Court”

The slick-pop song crafters from L.A. ride out again with their new single “Kangaroo Court”.  It dropped late this March on their own Lazy Hooks label.

To me these guys really understand their sound, the place they are writing from, and where they want to go.  I think they are only gonna get better.

Check out the sweet remix Shook did for the track as well.

Night Panther

“Snudge”

This is pretty dope, like a lite Toro Y Moi

yvynyl:

Look at this cover art!  Just look at it!  ”The sexy” is feelin’ you, bb. But don’t take this tongue-in-cheek artwork as a joke. While it may be “fueled by sex, synths and Phil Collins,” duo Farzad Houshiarnejad and Mike Cammarata are zoned into a sound that feels about as velvety as their jackets. This is hot pop. Look out for more from these Philly boys soon.

Heard that people “flipped their shit” at their debut house party show a couple weeks ago, so I highly advise that you catch them tomorrow night at Johnny Brenda’s in Philly opening for We Are SerenadesStay up to date on their Tmblr.

Masha Qrella

“Crooked Dreams”

Some good pop right here.

thevenomblog:

[DOWNLOAD]

Berlin-based songwriter Masha Qrella has announced the release of her long-awaited Analogies album, out on June 5th with Morr Music. Her first original studio material since 2005, Qrella has offered the first single “Crooked Dreams” for free mp3 download from her forthcoming album. A founding member of Berlin-based bands Mina and Contriva, Qrella first stepped out as a singer/songwriter in her own right with the release of her first solo album Luck. After two more full-lengths, Unsolved Remained and Speak Low, a collection of beautifully-rendered Kurt Weill and Frederick Loewe cover songs released in 2009, the latest Analogies LP truly marks a high point in her career.

Atlas Genius

“Back Seat”

I predict I will be into this cut for a while.

yvynyl:

Can data predict hits?

My friends at social music analytics company Next Big Sound think so. They wrote a post about trend data on this song, and how the numbers predict it’s hot enough to hype. I’ve thought a lot about this, and how a lot of services are working on predictive analytics that might take the music biz in the direction of Moneyball. On the one hand, it seems that they’re simply interpreting wildly far-flung play stats that grow organically on their own. If it worked, we’d likely see more home-grown success stories. But on the other, my jaded side thinks that what’s more likely is that these sorts of analytics only reenforce the industry status quo. The players with the money will always dominate the playlists because they have the PR power to get their artists up on P4K, Vevo, Spin, Rolling Stone and the like on a regular basis.

What do you think?

This Adelaide, Australian band’s new Through the Glass EP comes out on June 12th.

Royal Canoe

“Bathtub”

Caleb from Epic Concoction turned me on to this 6 piece from Winnipeg, Manitoba.  Their 4 song Extended Play, available at their bandcamp, is a clever blend of aesthetics and genres executed with a confidence and expertise usually reserved for more established groups.

Reminiscent of a more jubilent Grizzly Bear, the 4 song EP is quite the impressively solid effort.  I highly suggest you check it.
